How to find a good job?
The most often asked questions by our clients is no longer: ‘How to find a job?’ but, ‘How to find a good job?’. We will look at three key aspects of job searching that might change the way you approach job hunting.
The three facets
While referring to Anna Wicha’s observations, a country manager for Adecco Poland Staffing and Recruiting company, I would like to focus on three facets: difference in expectations between employer and candidate, space for compromise between them and how you can discover your own potential that can be well expressed during the application process.
Difference in expectations
Nowadays, personal and interpersonal competencies are on the top of the list, with a higher priority that knowledge or skills. It is so crucial for employers, that questions about the knowledge become secondary and even non-existent during some interviews.
Employers are focused
Employers are focused on soft skills (competencies) like effective communication, willingness to learn and ability to work in a group. Employees are focused on benefits, contract and training.
How to make the difference
Wicha suggests that there is ONE SIMPLE RULE to remove the gap between you and the employer. Ask if you do not understand the rules! What are the working conditions? What are the benefits? Expectations? When you ask you, show that you are interested, motivated and that you want to be in the game.
Space for Compromise
You created a space for compromise with the potential employer, when you meet, create some rules together, communicate clearly, exchange the ball and not keep it just in one yard, negotiate and each side give and gain. It needs to be a win-win, otherwise, there is a high risk that one side will be unhappy. Avoid situation when instead of asking on the interview questions that make the expectations clear, you start to complain later. If someone interviews 50 people a day not always will explain everything about the role comprehensively and it is your part of the story to clarify
How you can discover your potential
Self-reflection and self-assessment are great tools that will help you to discover your true potential. Be honest with you and a prospective employer. Get feedback from experts and answer these questions: What I can do better? How can I improve? You show that you are taking care of not making mistakes when you admit them and ask how to do it right. You gain respect and authority.
Use the opportunities
Use the opportunities that are on your way, like special projects, internships or ambassador programs. Check what working conditions and if that area is actually suitable for you. Are you better in small or big companies, sole or team projects?
And remember, be true, be memorable!
