Career path relates to the different positions we move on one by one as we grow. However, how to direct our career that best serve us?
For most career paths turned out different than expected. At some point, we realise we are not going to be who we wanted to be. That feeling we had as a young child of unlimited possibilities disappeared with time replaced with college and the best paying jobs.
We were told just to stay on the path of the good steady jobs and everything will be ok. However, for most of us that map does not work so we struggle with college and careers.
What is the best path for you?
Why? According to Deven Paolo, it is because the most important question is missing. What is the best path for you if your career plan does not go well?
Majority of professionals struggling with college and career path. Education is getting kids through high school to sign up for college however almost 50 % drop out in the US. Only one on three do make a degree but forty per cent do not work in their field of study.
College is working well only for a small percentage of the population and most are missing opportunities that pay well, have great benefits and opportunities to advance.
The mindset in high school was devaluing skill trades as any path other than college was labelled inferior, appropriate only for academically challenged. This caused a problem in some critical industries as a significant part of a skilled workforce will retire.
Unhappy and unengaged?
Wrong fit career paths create a workforce that is unhappy and less than fully engaged. Seventy per cent say that they are unsatisfied with their career choices spending the majority of the day in the unsatisfied job. The economy is losing a lot of creativity and ingenuity.
